CUE’s ARTworks program (formerly Modern ArtWorks) gives middle school students in the New York City metro area the opportunity to view and discuss contemporary art, then respond to their experience by making and exhibiting their own artworks. Students visit exhibitions, both at CUE and other cultural institutions, and participate in on-site workshops led by artists or arts educators who encourage direct engagement with art. In the weeks following their visit, students experience a school-based curriculum that helps them to create works of art that respond to the work seen in Chelsea. The program culminates in a one-week exhibition and sale of the students' work at CUE's gallery. All proceeds from sales are divided between the student artist and their school.

The 2011/2012 ARTworks and Joan Mitchell's Saturday Studios Program exhibition will be on view from May 24 - June 4, 2012.

This program has been generously supported by Thomas K.Y. & Linda Hsu, Thomas G. Devine, Joe & Beth Massoud, Rodney Reid, Brian & Cheryl Starer, Regina A. Wierbowski, and Vivian Kuan & Loli Wu. With additional support from Utrecht Art Supplies.
