Deborah Kass

Born in San Antonio, TX in 1952, New York-based painter Deborah Kass is well known for a series of works that she did in the 90s based on Andy Warhol's silk screens that deal with subjects of Jewish identity, celebrity status, feminism and portraiture. Her work Double Red Yentl, Split (My Elvis) from 1993 is in the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum in New York. Most recently, Ms. Kass had a solo exhibition of The Warhol Project at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC in 2001. Current group exhibitions include, "Likeness: Artists' Portraits of Artists" at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and "American Art: 1960-Present, Selections from the Permanent Collection", on view at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC. The Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany will show her work in a group exhibition entitled "The Eighth Square" in 2006.
