Moses

Artist's Statement

My foremost goal as an artist is to continue producing artwork that is fresh and comes from my soul.  To be an artist, I believe it is not enough to simply “create things” or do what comes naturally to me, instead, I believe I must constantly challenge all conventions.  This philosophy mandates that I question everything and that I never settle into any mode of art production.  I strive to create artwork that is truly new and inventive, and that stretches the boundaries of object-oriented art making.  My art is not easily classifiable.   It bridges genres - lying somewhere between painting and sculpture, as well as incorporating aspects of installation.

Another of my goals has been to make viewers stop and think about our world and their place in it, not simply in an intellectual way, but on a much more visceral and emotional level.  My art is about engaging viewers and has as one of its express intentions to move them.  My aim is to create art that has wide-reaching appeal, work that transforms our world and the way we look at it.

Artist's Bio

Twenty-eight year old, artist, Moses, currently lives and produces artwork in St. Louis, Missouri.  He works from a studio located amidst the industrial warehouses of this rust belt city, creating large works of art from mass-produced objects.

Moses’ most recent series titled, The Audiophile Series, are over-the-top artworks fantastically resembling mega-sound systems.  These constructions from old speakers, turntables, boomboxes, even cars, epitomize avant-garde American expression and reflect the hip-hop culture that drives style trends worldwide.

In 2006, Moses had his first solo museum show at the Contemporary Museum St. Louis.  Taking the city by storm, The Audiophile Series exhibit gained significant local and international press.   Moses’ artwork appeared on the cover of St. Louis’ premiere weekly newspaper, the Riverfront Times, and he was subject for the feature article.  In a review of the exhibition, art critic Ivy Cooper, wrote, “He has the potential to be big-league.”   Most recently, his work was featured in the international publication, Intersection Magazine.

As Moses continues to create work that speaks about what it means to be an American.
